The Swiss company ensures the strength of Tesla 2017-05-22
Small family business in the canton of Zoug, Bossard is the responsible of fixation techniques used to manufacture the Tesla Elon Musk cars. In 12 years, the SME's share has quadrupled in value on the Swiss stock exchange.
Each time that a Tesla Model S starts to reach 100 km / h in 2.7 seconds, it is a small company in Central Switzerland that ensures this performance.
Each electric car of the brand founded by Elon Musk includes between 700 and 3000 parts delivered by the family company Zug Bossard, reports HandelsZeitung. The Swiss company is emerging as the leading provider of Tesla fixation techniques ensuring the production of parts such as screws, nuts and rivets. Thirty-two Bossard employees based in Fremont, Silicon Valley, are working exclusively for Tesla.Based in Europe, the United States and Asia, the Swiss firm employs around 100 people at 75 sites worldwide.
Founded in 1831 by Franz Kaspar Bossard the Bossard was initially active in the silk trade, before diversifying into iron, a raw material considered more profitable. In 2005, for the first time in the almost bicentennial history of SMEs, a CEO is recruited outside the founding family, David Dean. A good decision. Since the start of the latter to the benefit of MBA from the IMD in Lausanne, the Bossard share has quadrupled in value on the Swiss stock exchange.
Reoriented activities
The key to success? A reorientation of the firm's activities. In the early 2000s, Bossard worked as a subcontractor for the manufacture of agricultural machinery. In agreement with the Chief Financial Officer Stephan Zehnder, David Dean decides to target the automotive industry. BMW becomes a major customer. As well as Tesla. At the time, the Tesla action is worth 17 dollars and Elon Musk's ambition to conquer the market with a vehicle that is both ecological and sexy made people laugh.
A partner since the beginning, Bossard now enjoys a privileged position with Elon Musk. Meanwhile, the Tesla share has climbed to $ 300, bringing the market capitalization to 50 billion dollars. By 2020, the California Company has to contribute up to 25% of Bossard’s turnover, for a sum estimated between 225 and 250 million. On each Tesla sold, some 640 francs return to Bossard, according to Research Partners, quoted by the HandelsZeitung.
