Germany: Bosch prepares to launch the brake disc that emits almost no particles 2017-11-25
A recent German study focused on the role of brakes and tires in the emissions of small particles from transports. They are not limited to the exhaust, and the study in question deduced that more than a third of the total particles emitted come from tires and brakes.
In other words, there is still much work to be done to significantly reduce these pollutants that accumulate in the respiratory system and cause serious disorders, especially in children and the elderly.
The equipment manufacturer Bosch would have found a solution with its brakes iDisc. These are actually classic cast iron discs. The big difference is that the material is melted with tungsten carbide, an alloy that is said to significantly strengthen the disc against wear and dust.
More than that, these discs would offer ceramic carbon disc braking performance, while doubling the lifetime compared to conventional cast iron parts. For the moment, Bosch has not specified which manufacturers will have this original braking system.
