Automotive industry in Algeria: Sad confrontation between the minister and the industrialists 2017-07-04
The new minister of industry and mines Mr. Bedda Mahdjoub has launched a verbal attack on all the car brands that have embarked on a process of industrialization in recent months, accusing them of practicing disguised imports. For the Minister of Industry, the expected objectives of this process are far from being achieved in particular with regard to job creation and the reduction of the import bill.
'Instead of creating jobs, the sector has lost,' the minister said in an interview with the TSA site. More efforts are needed from dealers in this area to seriously reduce these disguised imports of vehicles '.
The new orientations of the government should not disturb the serious manufacturers who want to contribute with the Algerian state to set up a real automobile industry. Unfortunately there are people whose main objective is to collect money at the expense of the general interest.
The boss of the Sovac Group and Sovac Production plant responded to the industry minister on the same site (TSA) stating that his partnership with Volkswagen is aimed at expanding the export of spare parts. '' The assembly is only a means to get there. We are working with the Volkswagen group, which is our partner to make Algeria a platform for exporting spare parts, "he said in his speech.
He reminded the minister that the German manufacturer is present in the capital of his factory at Relizane. "We work with the world's leading automaker that is present in the capital of the production company as required by the specifications," he added.
