Tunisia: The Trade Union Chamber of Car Dealers sends out a cry of distress! 2017-11-21
The executive board of the Trade Union Chamber of Automobile Dealers expressed this Tuesday, November 21, 2017; its concerns about the "broken promises" issued by the Ministry of Commerce and sent a cry of distress to the authorities to unblock the situation of the sector.
A member of the Syndical Chamber explained in a statement to Business News that the sector has agreed to support the government's efforts in a context of a trade deficit and a decline in foreign exchange reserves, by reducing by 20% of cars imports for the year 2018, but with the conditions for the Ministry of Commerce to take drastic measures concerning the parallel market and to be able to import the rest of this year's quota.
"We were reassured on this point and the ministry promised to take strict and clear measures on the parallel market issue, also ensuring the possibility of importing the quota of cars already manufactured on which we committed ourselves with automakers before the meeting with the Commerce Department.
Nevertheless, we were surprised to find that while the 20% issue was widely publicized, the promises made by the department were not held because of a signature from the minister that we have been waiting for 40 days. Meanwhile our cars are blocked! "Said the Trade Union Chamber of Automobile Dealers, the Ministry of Commerce has not honored his part of the contract and has broken his promise.
