Algeria: more than 30 pending requests for the construction of assembly plants 2017-11-21
A specification will be published in the coming weeks, intended for the vehicle assembly companies in Algeria, said Thursday in Algiers the Minister of Industry and Mines, Youcef Yousfi.
"The formulation of the specifications for vehicle assembly was completed after consultation with all stakeholders, adding that it will be published in a few weeks," said Yousfi
The specifications will cover all categories of vehicles (cars, buses, trucks, bicycles, motorcycles and trains).
Companies undertake under these specifications to comply with the rules and principles to organize this industry and gradually increase the national integration rate.
Yousfi predicts a national integration rate of current vehicle assembly projects to more than 40% over the next few years, adding that the launch of Skikda's plastic production plant will allow a "noticeable" increase of this rate, especially since this material represents 18 to 20% of the cost of production of vehicles.Yousfi did not mention whether the government would allow new brands to settle in Algeria.
Until now, only Renault, Hyundai, Kia, Volkswagen have been allowed to set up assembly plants in Algeria. Other brands like Peugeot and Nissan are waiting for the government's approval to launch their projects.
