Renault, Microsoft and VISEO launch a digital service book 2017-08-16
At the time of all digital, It is surprising that this has not existed for a long time and yet: The information on the car of 2017 is still dispersed and mainly on paper. But that could soon change.
The maintenance book, in the glove box, looks like a small paper catalog with as many pages as revisions to make. Maintenance or repair bills are folded in the accompanying pocket, or stored in a file cabinet at home. Not to mention the technical control, the information collected by your insurer, etc. etc.
Even your insurer holds information about your car
Aware of this inconsistency, Renault, Microsoft and VISEO have decided to join their forces to design a dematerialized and secure maintenance book. This maintenance logbook would store all vehicle information from a variety of sources. Thus a garage, during an intervention, would add to this notebook of digital maintenance the changed parts. Similarly, during the technical inspection, the recorded measurements would be automatically stored in this logbook, making it possible to follow more precisely the wear of brakes and pads or, for example, shock absorbers.
Thanks to such a dematerialized maintenance booklet and, importantly, secure, that is to say that the information that will find it cannot be changed without good reason, not only the track maintenance of a vehicle will be facilitated, but also the resale of used vehicles. The seller will only have to authorize the access to the digital service book to the buyer, so that the buyer checks the information that has been communicated to him in advance. And if he buys the vehicle, automatically recovers its entire history.
A paperless maintenance book for all car brands soon?
For now, the press release of the partner companies speaks of "open technical base", which may suggest that such a maintenance book could be multi-branded. It would be logical for Renault, with its Renault Minute workshops, repairs and maintains for a long time other manufacturers’ vehicles. On the other hand, when will be this logbook created? It is currently only a project, not the announcement of a commercial launch.
