France: Plastic Omnium pursues its re-focus strategy 2017-07-04
As announced last fall, the French sold its trucks branch to German mutares.
No more heavyweight business for Plastic Omnium! Indeed, as announced last November, the group chaired by Laurent Burelle has just formalized the sale of its heavyweight business to the German Mutares AG.
This "design and manufacture of bodywork and structural parts for the truck industry, which employs 1500 people, achieved in 2016 a turnover of approximately 200 million Euros in nine production sites ( Five in France, one in Germany, one in Mexico and two in China, Said the OEM in a statement.
Plastic Omnium, which had sales of 6.93 billion Euros in 2016, sees its scope reduced by about 3%. The company also announces that this sale will "have a relative effect on the profitability of the group", thus improving its financial performance.
The French equipment manufacturer is therefore focusing on its Light weight activities and their development, as evidenced by the takeover, more than a year ago, of Faurecia's "External" business.
"Plastic Omnium, the world leader in body and structural components, modules and automotive fuel systems, is pursuing its strategy of profitable growth in sustainable mobility," said Plastic Omnium.
Certainly, plastic Omnium focuses on VP, but the historic environmental division, with its garbage bins in particular, is still firmly rooted in the group, with sales of 369 million Euros in 2016, 2000 employees and six plants to distribute Products in fifty countries.
