Lars was formerly the president of Optima Batteries worldwide, and Neil was the lead engineer Optima Batteries, Inc The founders assembled a team with substantial experience in industrial and military battery development in Centennial, Colorado. In 2001 the Company produced prototype bipolar NiMH batteries, filed its first patents and assembled a team of highly experienced battery engineers. The team objective was to develop a bi-polar battery that would improve battery performance. The design which the developers created lends itself to a simplified packaging solution which can often be the bane of engineers trying to integrate batteries into products. In 2003 Nilar expanded and moved into larger premises with improved R&D and production facilities, including a semi-automatic electrode production line. The company signed its first commercial development agreement and in 2004 produced its first three custom configurations for power tools and wheelchairs and shipped limited standard production samples to select markets. Today Nilar has developed its production process and is market ready. It has been awarded contracts for a variety of projects including hybrid vehicles, standby power, and numerous other projects in Europe and North America and can boast of being one of the few US based battery operations making advanced power batteries for tomorrow's energy needs. The company has also developed a rapidly scalable production process that can be deployed anywhere in the world at short notice.
