Australia: Canadian automotive supplier Magna revs up hybrid deal 2017-06-20
Magna International considers that producing electric cars is a part of its strategy.
From its factory in Australia, Magna International will produce BMW’s new 5-series plug in hybrid which will be made from this northern summer in the Graz plant, Australia.
The customer demand of electric cars is still low comparing to petrol ones, but companies start to offer more choices in order to sale vehicles that emit lower level of carbon dioxide.
More investments in electric and petrol electric hybrid cars
As an example , continental confirmed in April that more effort are spent in new products that concern electric vehicles like charging systems and battery management .
Magna, North America’s, is alone among the best suppliers to perform contract manufacturing for car makers. Its Austrian plant can produce about 200,000 cars a year. Magna is building a new paint shop in Slovenia due to increased demand.
A Magna spokeswoman would not comment on a statement by the Slovenian government in March that the car supplier would invest up to €1.24bn in the country, including a car plant with capacity of 100,000 to 200,000 vehicles a year.
Car makers try to bring more electrified cars on the market, outsourcing the assembly can represent an advantage to car markets as their production lines will not be involved and the capital expenditure is minimized
