France: BMW Group expands its spare parts distribution center in Strasbourg 2017-06-22
To support its sales development, BMW Group is expanding the storage and distribution structure of its parts in Europe. The extension of the Strasbourg center has just begun.
Today, BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce have 23 million vehicles in circulation. To ensure their maintenance, BMW Group has decided to expand its spare parts distribution center in Strasbourg, one of the largest in Europe.
The first stone of this site was laid on the 21 of June in the presence of Robert Herrmann, President of Strasbourg Europole, Frédéric Bierry, Chairman of the Bas-Rhin Departmental Council, Frank Becker, ADIRA Deputy Director General, Wolfgang Baumann, The management of the spare parts logistics of the BMW Group, and Vincent Salimon, Chairman of the Management Board of BMW Group France.
The extension was designed by the architecture firm Ligne bleue and its construction was entrusted to the Alsatian group LCR (Les Constructeurs Réunis). This is done with the aim of "improving customer service through better parts availability, faster delivery and increased storage capacity," said BMW Group. It will ensure the logistics of spare parts from all of eastern France, southwestern Germany and Switzerland. The volume will be divided equally among these three countries.
In these three markets, BMW Group dealers and subsidiaries deliver approximately 3.9 million orders each year to 360 customers. In 1981, when this logistics center was established, BMW produced about 350,000 cars and 32,000 motorcycles. Today, the group produces 2,400,000 vehicles and 140,000 motorcycles annually with a number of brands and models that has grown considerably.
"The status of global player BMW Group involves the regular reviews of the settlements in the world, in the sense of the quantitative increase in capacity, and above all customer orientation. As the network of BMW Group's production plants, the spare parts distribution network must follow the customer's demand. For this, Strasbourg is ideally located: it is the capital and the center of Europe, "says Wolfgang Baumann, managing director of BMW Group's spare parts logistics.
