With the increase in car prices and the traffic jam, to acquire a two-wheeled vehicle is the now best solution. This trend is confirmed by the large audience who moved to the office of Riadh El Feth in Algiers, which houses the first Edition of the two-wheeled fair (ALMOTO). This event, which takes place 16 to 20 May, recorded, indeed, a significant number of visitors. The presence of the most important international brands of scooters, motorcycles, Quads and bicycles has made the enthusiasts and amateurs happy. The motorcycles have become the future of mobility in Algeria since, according to professionals met during this event; all categories of citizens say they are interested in this fashion "An Extraordinary" transport.
By visiting several stands, we were able to learn about the scope of this sector, but we also succeed in having an idea about the preference of seekers. Having a two-wheeled vehicle has become a practical and an economical way to gain a significant time on the road. For young people, acquiring a Motorcycle seems to be the new trend and a solution, especially in the current economic crisis.
Peugeot, Yamaha and BMW are the most well-known and dominant brands on the national market, well present at the first edition of this fair. For the concessionaire of the Peugeot Scooters Algeria brand, represented by Mohamed Babaci, commercial and marketing director, the initiative to reserve a space for this industry is a very good thing, welcoming the effort of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. "Until now, the use of motorcycles remained marginal," he said. Installed since 2015, the French manufacturer is growing on the Algerian market, with a wide choice of products. It has twelve points of sale throughout the country and hopes to reach the number of 20 distributors by the end of 2017. Mr Babaci assured that in 2017 new measures of conformity of the products that are sold on the market have been put in place to guarantee the safety of the motorcyclists. Citing as an example the new braking system (ABS), a mandatory option, which each scooter must have otherwise, the product will not be allowed to be marketed. In the beginning, Peugeot managed to sell 1,600 scooters. For 2017, the goal is to sell 2,000 scooters. For the demand, that is mainly expressed at the level of large cities, such as Alger, Oran, Constantine, Tlemcen and Blida. As far as prices are concerned, Peugeot Scooters stand includes exceptional offers, including discounts on the entire range and a two-year warranty with unlimited mileage. Among the most popular models of the brand, in particular by the young, the Tweet. Equipped with two types of engines, the 125 cm3 and the 150 cm3, the price of this scooter is displayed at 299 000 DA, with helmet Shiro delivered gracefully to the purchaser.
Multi-use and inexpensive
In another stand, we find the company VMS Industry representing two global brands of Italian origin Keeway and Benelli. For the representative of these brands, Sabrina Idjoudiene, the demand on motorcycles is very important, especially in big cities. The company has a point of sale in each region, including Algiers, Bejaia, Setif, Annaba, Oran and Tlemcen. The range of these bikes is intended for both women and men. "Today, whether they are girls or boys, young or elderly people, the two-wheeled vehicles, whatever the model, has become a very practical means of transport", says our interlocutor.
Along the streets of large Algerian cities, scooters with rear trailers are frequently found where advertising posters are displayed. The show also houses a stand reserved for a communication and advertising agency (APCS), the first in Algeria in this field, which has already acquired the confidence of several major brands of products. It proposes its fleet of motorcycles in order to publicize the products of the companies concerned.
The representative of the agency acknowledged that at launch, it was difficult to imagine the success of such a communication. But today, mobile display using motorcycles has found its place in Algeria. Our interlocutor does not hide her optimism, claiming that the company, deployed in the major cities of the country, plans to increase the number of its employees by the end of 2017 and to move forward.
The world of maintenance of the two wheels now exists in Algeria. During our visit to the show, we noticed the presence of a company specialized in the marketing of spare parts and accessories. This is Sidi Achour Motorcycles-Parts, present throughout the national territory. Its managing director, Redah Sidi Achour, said that no fewer than twelve brands of safety equipment for motorcyclists and spare parts for motorcycles are represented. Exclusive distributor of these brands, the manager of Sidi Achour Motorcycles-Parts cited several of these brands, including helmets and safety equipment available in all sizes. For spare parts, Mr. Sidi Achour assured that all consumable parts for all types of models are available at competitive prices.
New technologies are no exception. Connectivity systems are also available at this importer, including integrated cameras, Bluetooth. Sidi Achour Motorcycles-Parts has 97 points of sale on the national territory, responding to a strong demand, mainly in large cities where, according to the manager, the growth of this activity is remarkable, especially in recent years.
Real risks
The only downside for the motorcycle world is the dangers of traffic and the lack of parking spaces and lanes specific to this mode of transport in the cities of the country cause accidents. According to the report of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), more than 880 road accidents were caused by motorcycles during 2016. These accidents caused by motorcycles are due in particular, according to the same source, to excessive speed, dangerous overtaking, the recklessness of motorcyclists, the non-respect of the traffic law and the non-wearing of the helmet. During the event, an awareness campaign for the benefit of all road users was initiated. A motorcyclist who has crisscrossed the country aboard his motorcycle invites visitors to be careful on the roads. Awareness of the dangers of the road is just as important as acquiring a motorcycle, believes Khmissi Samir, who founded the association Stop Road Aggressiveness. Since 2014, this association has carried out 23 actions to raise awareness about the use of scooters. The aim is to educate young people who do not wear helmets on the dangers they are facing. Awareness campaigns also include advice and guidance to motorcyclists, including compliance with the traffic laws.
